SPL does extensive research on the needs of the end user of our products while appreciating the need to adhere to best practices and open systems in industry. SPL has particular regard for open source technologies that enable businesses and public institutions to procure systems at affordable rates. The quality of our research is demonstrated by the quality of the wholly locally produced software (I-HMIS – I-HMIS) that was designed and developed in year 2001 using PostgreSQL (an advanced Object oriented Relational Database Management System), Java tools and open source technologies; tools that were in very limited use at the time in both developed and developing countries.
At that time you could hardly find anyone using these open technologies let alone an open source based software solution. Currently the systems have been upgraded to a Web based system thus providing clients with the opportunity to access them from remote locations.
An in-depth research is carried out on the needs of clients to fully understand the dynamism of an industry, sector or institution to be able to provide a well rounded ICT solution to manage it. We have partnered with various players whose objective is to improve health services in Kenya. The end-product from these collaborations and feedback has been a system that generates reports according to the ministry of health’s standard formats and requirements. Direct reports from the FunSoft™ system have been submitted and accepted by the Ministry of Medical Services, as well as the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation. Various development partners and health facilities are also consumers of data and information generated from the FunSoft™ HMIS system.
The business analysts in the office analyze user/client requirements and specifications and gives feedback to the client before the process of designing the system begins. Standard documentation of the system is carried out using Unified Modelling Language (UML), Javadoc and ED.
